Beach Trip @ Savannah

2011-01-12T11:51:14-04:00

Second stop on our dual destination beach trip. After walking through the town in the evening, hitting up the waterfront for some to-go drinks, we stayed at the Planters Inn. The next day we had lunch with some of Janis' old school friends and I got a tour of the SCAD architecture building. [view-the-gallery galleryaddress="SavannahOvernight"]

Beach Trip @ Charleston

2011-01-12T12:23:33-04:00

First stop on our dual destination beach trip. Stayed with one of Janis' friends in Charleston and went to the beach to get sunburned. Storms rolled in and it took an hour to get off of the island because everyone tried to leave at once. The next day we left for Savannah with a stop [...]

Sheldon Church Panoramas

2016-11-24T12:45:31-04:00

Originally built 1755, burned and rebuilt in 1826, the Old Sheldon Prince William's Parish Church was burned again in 1865 by the Federal Army. Its ruins still exist today in the low country of South Carolina just northwest of Gardens Corner. According to the historical sign, they still hold Easter services here yearly as well [...]

Mt. Pleasant Panoramas

2011-01-13T23:20:13-04:00

A couple panoramas from our recent weekend trip to Charleston, SC. The first one was from a friend's driveway, showing the extensive outdoor living space. The second one was taken at the remains of the Pitt Street Bridge which has been turned into a city park. The bridge was the primary road connection to Sullivans [...]

Raleigh Bike Tour

2011-01-12T12:25:00-04:00

Was taken on a 23 mile bike ride around Raleigh to check out some of the older neighborhoods and contemporary surprises that are found near downtown. Unfortunately, we got caught out in the rain as storms rolled through the area. After waiting the first round of showers out in a greenway tunnel, almost getting stuck [...]

Camping Panorama

2011-01-13T23:25:21-04:00

This is my first complete 360x180 degree panorama, as it captures everything except for the tripod below. Campsites at Crowders Mountain State Park are available for a cost of $9 a night. [link-related url="/gps/2008/kings-pinnacle" subject="Link to the King's Pinnacle post for campsite location"]

Crowders Mountain West

2016-11-24T12:45:31-04:00

Kings Mountain, NC – Approaching from the west, the Crowders Trail and Rocktop Trail provide a longer and much more challenging path for scaling Crowders Mountain. These trails experience a great amount of elevation change, both ascending and descending, as they follow the undulations of the terrain between Crowders Mountain and King’s Pinnacle. Totaling around [...]

Northeast Amtrak Map

2016-11-24T12:45:32-04:00

While taking our first trip on Amtrak from Charlotte to New York City recently, I had the handheld GPS on and recording our location along the way. I was curious about two things: first, where are the tracks amtrak uses, and secondly, how fast do the trains go. After returning home, I was able to [...]
